The Best Laid Plans...

I can't believe it but I am actually looking forward to a few sew-free nights.  This week I was a sewing maniac and finished the back of Wonky, Wonky Music and the front of my latest quilt, Lottie Da for Ma.  My quilt names are silly, I know.

I didn't know I was going to have a bunch of leftover bow ties after completing the front of WWM.  I played around with them a bit and decided to put them together in 5 rows of 6.  I made more red than orange.  I like they flow together and the wonkiness of the shapes.  I had originally planned to use the Wide Spot On fabric from Robert Kaufman when the back was going to be made of a single fabric.  It didn't go with the bow ties, though.  To me, it screamed Botanica from Carolyn Friedlander.  I decided on this grey fabric, simply called Ash, on the Robert Kaufman website.  I found it at gather here.  I love that I can pop down there and get some fabric when I need it!

What's with the orange stripes, you say?  Well, I bought 2.5 yards, not 3 as I should have, which meant I had to do some creative piecing.  I love things that are supposed to be wonky!  Nothing has to match up perfectly!

Speaking of which, you'll see some of the bow ties on the bottom right have horizontal stripes.  That's because they weren't quite big enough so I added some extra fabric.  I am totally liking this wonky thing.

I stayed true to my word and didn't touch Lottie Da for Ma until I finished that back.  I started out making it in the form of Jelly Roll Jam, but as things go with sewing (or at least my sewing) it didn't quite work out.

I have this instead.  Only a mother could love this quilt, LOL.  I am going to quilt WWM myself, so I sent this one off to Krista for quilting.  Oh and I am using the RK Spot On fabric for the back!

What will I make next?  Maybe I'll get to my Marimekko project.

See what else is going on this WIP Wednesday!

Looks great. I love how the back of the quilt could be the front.
