Hello and welcome to the Sew a Modern Home blog tour and giveaway! One lucky winner will receive an e-copy of this book which is full of projects you definitely want to make.
I’m very happy for and proud of my friend, Melissa Lunden, who has written her first book, Sew a Modern Home for Martingale. For those who don’t know Melissa, she is a pattern designer who lives in Portland, OR. Her patterns are innovative and appropriate for novice quilters and experienced quilters alike. If you’d like your very own hard copy of her book, it is available on both Barnes and Nobel and Amazon. Melissa's patterns are available in her etsy shop.
In Sew a Modern Home, the projects are organized by room: living room, dining room, main bedroom, boy’s and girl’s rooms and nursery. The book also features instructions to make a picnic quilt an fun market tote.
My favorite projects include the Sharp Turn Quilt for the boy’s room. It would look great in light blue, gold and white or black, gold and white for both Bruin teams — UCLA and Boston!
The quilt for the girl’s room the Pinky Patch Quilt is scrap-friendly. A great twist on this quilt would be to replace the 4-squares with fussy cut prints.
If you are looking for fun plushies to make, Melissa has created the very cute Plushie Penguin and Octoplushie patterns. There is also the Ribbon Lattice Playmat that is decorated with ribbon. I really love that idea. Melissa suggests an option using fabric instead of ribbon. That could be a good way to use up those leftover binding strips.
The "out and about" projects feature The Bee's Knees Picnic Quilt and the Farmers' Market Tote. I am a sucker for a bag, so I will definitely be making that!

That is a cool quilt...the blue red and gray one. And you are right about it being a great team quilt.
Looks like a brilliant book! Thanks for the chance to win!
Book is on my wish list! Lots of nice looking projects to tackle.
I love finding ideas for men and boys! Looks like a great book!
Thanks for the give away! I love the Sharp Turn quilt. Great for a grandson!
I would love to win the E-book! I'm most loving the Pinky Patch quilt. I've been saving up purples for just such a quilt!
They all look nice, but the Sharp Turn is particularly appealing! I'm in Sweden, so I'd love an ebook version if my name comes out of the hat!
Thanks for the giveaway. Lots of inspiration but the The Bee's Knees Picnic Quilt appeals to me -- especially for autumn picnics.
This book looks like it has some great projects! The Pinky Patch Quilt is one that I would love to make from my scraps. Thanks for the chance to win.
I am really loving modern quilting. Now I would love to have a good book on it too!
I enjoy what I've seen so far and would like to try a few. pjrcontest@msn.com
Thanks for the book review. Sew a Modern Home seems to have lots of projects that appeal to me. I really like the cover quilt.
Looks like a great book. I would love to win. Thanks!
I love the simple lines of modern quilting. I am trying to design a quilt with those principles but that also have a twist/influence of a traditional flavor. We are preparing to move in order to renovate our home which will have one theme rather than many that the previous owners fought about-rather chaotic (Craftsman, Italian, Spanish revival). The house is mostly Spanish revival with rounded windows. Any suggestions for something simple. Since you are starting a new blog around geometric shapes (!) this might be something that would interest you. I'm thinking modern Spanish tiles.
Love modern, the freshness of it :@
I love the pinky quilt and I like your idea to replace the center 4 with 1 fussy-cut. This might be just the pattern I'm looking for for my daughter's quilt! Thanks for the chance to win! Sarah: crjandsbj(at)netzero(dot)com

This book really has a lot of neat projects. I'd like to make the Pinky Patch quilt in blues and greys for a nephew of mine.
Looking at the photos I can't find anything I DON'T like. The hard part would be deciding which to make first. My home SOOOOOO needs a makeover.
